In 1572 kwam Willem van Oranje in Delft wonen en werken om de opstand tegen de Spanjaarden te leiden. In deze jaren is het huidige Nederland als parlementaire een- heidsstaat geboren met zijn princi- pes van vrijheid van godsdienst en vrije meningsuiting. Sinds de moord op Willem van Oranje in 1584 is het Koninklijk Huis nauw aan Delft verbonden. Het imposante praalgraf van Willem van Oranje is te bewon- deren in de Nieuwe Kerk en geeft de kerk koninklijke allure. /In 1572, William of Orange came to live and work in Delft to lead the revolt against the Spaniards.
In those years, the Netherlands we know today, as parliamentary unity, was born, with its princi- ples of freedom of religion and freedom of expression. Even since the assassination of William of Orange in 1584, the royal family has been closely bound to Delft.

Porcelain capital of the world This autumn, more than 120 objects will be on display from Jingdezhen, the Chinese city to which Delft owes its successful Delft Blue industry and where porcelain of the highest quality has been produced since the 6th century. De Blauwe Tulp (The Blue Tulip) produces Delftware in a traditional manner. The white-baked earthen- ware items are hand-decorated by the artisan painters. The trademark at the back is also the certificate of authenticity, which you receive by buying something.

Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) is een wereldberoemde Delftse schilder uit de Gouden Eeuw. Hij verwierf internationale faam door zijn verbluffende weergave van het zonlicht.
Twee van zijn schilderijen verbeelden het Delftse straatbeeld in de Gouden Eeuw, zoals ‘het straatje’ en
‘gezicht op Delft’. Meer over het leven en werk van de schilder ontdek je in het Vermeer Centrum Delft. Hier zijn ook hoogwaardige digitale reproducties van al zijn andere schilderijen te bewonderen, alsook informatie over de tijdgenoten van Vermeer.
Tijdens het lopen van de Vermeer-wandeling door het centrum van Delft passeer je locaties die een belang- rijke rol speelden in het leven van Vermeer. Onderweg kom je zes kubussen tegen met informatie, weetjes en feiten over het leven en werk van de schilder. De wandeling is voor € 2,50 te koop bij VVV Delft en het Vermeer Centrum Delft.

Two of his paintings, such as ‘The Little Street’ and
‘View of Delft’ , depict the Delft street scene just like it is was in the Golden age. You can discover more about the painter’s life and his work in Vermeer Centre Delft. You can admire high quality reproduc- tions of all of his paintings on scale, as well as find information about Vermeer’s contemporaries.
While walking the Vermeer walking route through the centre of Delft, you will pass sites that played an important role in Vermeer’s life. Along the way you will find six cubes with information, trivia and facts about the life and work of the painter. The walking route can be purchased at VVV Delft and the Vermeer Centre Delft, for € 2,50.

Objects permanently on display at the Museum Prinsenhof Delft are based on three defining themes:
William of Orange, Delft Blue and Delft Masters. On the basis of exhibitions and varied programmes, the museum continues to tell new sides of the story.

The home of the painter Paul Tetar van Elven still exudes the atmosphere of the 19th century. His paintings are everywhere: portraits, historical scenes and copies of world-famous works, such as Rembrandt’s Night Watch. Moreover, Tetar was a passion- ate collector of Chinese pottery and of course Delft Blue! Come and visit this authentic canal house!
Het huis van kunstschilder Paul Tetar van Elven (1823-1896) ademt de sfeer van de 19de eeuw. Overal hangt zijn werk: portretten, historische taferelen én kopieën van beroemde werken, zoals de Nachtwacht. Bovendien was Tetar een hartstochtelijk verzamelaar van Chinees porselein en Delfts Blauw.

The route takes you through Midden Delfland, a peaty landscape characterized by meadows, ditches and pollarded willows. The route takes you through the villages of Maasland and Schipluiden.

De route gaat door Midden-Delfland, een veenweide landschap dat wordt gekenmerkt door weilanden, sloten en knotwilgen.
U komt door de dorpen Maasland en Schipluiden.
Start bij knooppunt op de Cameretten (zie ook de plattegrond op pag. 2-3) Vanaf knooppunt langs het water van de Schie blijven fietsen (gaat over in fietspad) tot knooppunt . U negeert dus knoop- punt .
Vervolgens:
* *TIP: bij knooppunt is het tijdens de zomermaanden leuk om met het pontje “de Kwakel“ naar de overkant te varen. Daar is knooppunt en vandaar kun je naar en de route verder vervolgen.

Vanuit Delft reis je gemakkelijk met de tram naar Den Haag en het strand.

Molen de Roos is de enig overgebleven molen van de 18 molens die Delft ooit had. Tijdens een bezoek zie je hoe het graan tot meel gemalen wordt, net zoals dat al in 1679 gedaan werd.
Op de zolders van de molen leer je alles over molens, meel, het dagelijkse brood en windkracht en met de handmolen kun je er zelf graan malen. Neem ook een kijkje in de molenwinkel Ambacht.
Hier kun je Delfts molenmeel, bak- en streekproducten kopen.
‘Molen de Roos’ is the only mill left from the 18 mills that were once located in Delft. During a visit you can see how grain is grinded to flour, just like how they did in 1679.
In the attics you can learn everything about mills, flour, bread and wind power and with the hand mill you can even grind grain yourself. Last but not least, don’t forget to check out the mill shop ‘Ambacht’. You can buy ‘Delfts’ flour and other regional
products here.
