Curriculum Vitae
Melody Chia-Wen Lu (ܨ ୮ प ) was born in Chuanghua, Taiwan in 1969. She received her BA in Foreign Language and Literature from the National Taiwan University in Taiwan in 1992 and her MA in Development Studies from the Institute of Social Studies (ISS), the Netherlands in 1997. In 2001, she obtained her second MA from the Research School of Asian, African and Amerindian Studies (CNWS), Leiden University, and continued her PhD study in the same institute. She has published several articles and co-edited a book Cross-border marriage migration in East and Southeast Asia: socio-demographic patterns and issues (forthcoming, Amsterdam: Amsterdam University Press). Currently, she is an affiliated fellow at the International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS), the Netherlands and coordinates a research programme Cross-border Marriages in East and Southeast Asia since 2006.
Prior to her academic involvement she worked at various social movements and NGOs in Taiwan, Hong Kong and the Philippines on the issues of student activism, gender, migration and sex work in the Asia-Pacific region.
Melody Chia-Wen Lu (ܨ୮प) werd geboren in Chuanghua, Taiwan in 1969. Zij behaalde haar BA in Buitenlandse Taal- en Letterkunde aan de Nationale Taiwan Universiteit in Taipei in 1992 en haar MA in Ontwikkelingsstudies aan het Institute of Social Studies (ISS) in Den Haag in 1997. In 2001 behaalde zij haar tweede MA aan het Onderzoeksinstituut voor Aziatische, Afrikaanse en Amerindische Studies (CNWS) van de Universiteit Leiden en vervolgde met haar promotiestudie aan hetzelfde instituut. Zij heeft verscheidene artikelen gepubliceerd en was mederedacteur van een boek getiteld Cross-border marriage migration in East and Southeast Asia: socio-demographic patterns and issues (te verschijnen, Amsterdam:
Amsterdam University Press). Op dit moment is zij een affiliated fellow aan het International Institute for Asian Studies (IIAS) en coördineert zij sinds 2006 een onderzoeksprogramma getiteld Cross-border Marriages in East and Southeast Asia.
Voor haar academische betrekkingen werkte zij bij verschillende sociale bewegingen en NGO’s in Taiwan, Hong Kong en de Filippijnen met betrekking tot de onderwerpen studentenactivisme, gender, migratie en sexwerk in de Aziatisch- Pacifische regio.
