My PhD was only possible with the help of people surrounding me over these 4 years, partly in Brazil and partly in the Netherlands. Either by scientific input, a friendly advice or a shelter I received the necessary support to which I am eternally grateful.
For my supervisor Prof. Dr. Flavio Henrique Baggio Aguiar, who encouraged all my projects and also the biggest one of studying abroad I address a tremendous gratitude and respect. I appreciate all the years of mentoring and endorsing. I believe that supporting a student involves dedication and kindness.
For my supervisor Prof. Dr. Ubirajara Pereira Rodrigues Filho I am deeply grateful for all the chemistry lessons that you have patiently given me. Sharing knowledge nowadays is rare and demands generosity. Thank you for the support throughout my research.
I was privileged to have gained a third supervisor here in the Netherlands
Prof. Dr. Prashant Kumar Sharma. Thank you very much for the trust in my work
and for the peaceful guidance, these aspects surely made the transition to the new country much smoother.
Also in the Netherlands I had the honor to be oriented by Prof. Dr. Henny
van der Mei from whom I read and learned even before coming to the department.
Due to your greatness in work I tried to learn from each talk, corrections or e-mails we exchanged. Thank you for the orientation.
Dr. Carlos Alexandre Holanda besides being my partner at work you were
also my friend. Hours in the lab followed by nice dinner afterwards. During PhD this kind of relationship is key. You were deeply dedicated to my project as much as you were to your own. To this excellent and humble professional I could only be grateful.
To all the professors from restorative dentistry department that taught me so much since undergraduate times at Piracicaba Dental School - Unicamp Prof. Dr.
Giselle Marchi, Prof. Dr. Luís Roberto Marcondes, Prof. Dr. Débora Alves, Prof. Dr. Luís Alexandre Paulillo, Prof. Dr. Marcelo Giannini, Prof. Dr. Vanessa Cavalli thank you for making our department of excellence.

Dr. Marco Gresnigt, thank you for letting me enhance my dentistry skills
with you. Thank you for all the trust and precious hints. Evoking my dentistry background with you every Wednesday morning was always joyful.
Dr. Lucas Naves and Dr. Ulf Schepke I met on my final stage of PhD. Your
support on those very last moments of tiredness and discouragement was providential. Obrigada! Vielen Dank!
I want to thank Waldemir Francisco Vieira Júnior, Jéssica Theobaldo and
Conrado Caetano. Representatives of my story at Unicamp. We were together
since freshman times until Doctor stage. I am always proud of who we were and who we became. I know I could count on you to share my victories and also my fears or disappointments.
Cristiane, Thayla, Michele, Thati, Renata, Marcela and Rodrigo. All part of
the restorative dentistry department and therefore part of the moments and memories I will carry forever in my heart. Thank you for having existed in my life. I also want to thank my friends Fábio, Elias, Guto, Átila, Amanda, Elton, Thaína and Mateus that helped me so much with their expertise in the chemistry lab in the São Carlos Institute of Chemistry. Thank you for all the lessons and hints, you saved me.
I express here also the immense feeling of gratitude to Vinicius (Pika),
Akira, Caio, Tamy, Cheng, Octávio, Issamu, Felipe (Xinube). I have your support
since high school which per se is already a blessing. With you I have that precious feeling of belonging. We have changed a lot and also the circumstances did but the tender friendship and support are the same. I love you, my friends. I am grateful for having you and forever will be. This important stage of my life would not be possible without you.
During this PhD I moved a couple of times including moving from one side of the Atlantic to the other. Roomies: Fernanda, Kelly and Jô from Piracicaba,
Thaína, Mariana and Marília from São Carlos and Saskia from Groningen. Thank
you for sharing a home with me. Laughs and fun were assured and quickly an ordinary day would turn into a happy day.
Matheus, Thais, Luciani, Yanyan and Reinier with you guys Groningen
quickly became a fun place to live and work. Living abroad, far from our family and friends can be hard sometimes. Counting on you made the challenges way easier and smaller. I appreciate every little moment we have shared.

Damla and Alessandro the connection with you was so enjoyable and deep
that now I can say I have roots here in Groningen. I am profoundly thankful for all the understanding, sharing and encouragement, all of this was vital to the development of my career and also to my development as a better human being. I love you and I want to keep you forever close.
To the friends that Biomedical Engineering (BME) department gave me
Laís, Olga C., Olga M., René, Lu Yuan, Guangyue, Yuanfeng, Yong Liu, Ruifang, Tânia, Filipa, Maria, Colin, Abby, Vera, Brandon, Alina, Yuchen and Taraneh,
my honest acknowledgements and deep respect. We have shared more than scientific knowledge additionally we have shared rich cultures and team spirit.
Minie (my dear labcoach), Ina, Willy, and Hans thank you for all the
kindness and cooperation during my transition period and laboratorial training. New job and new workplace are exciting but at the same time intimidating. Betsy,
Joop, Willem, Ed, Jelly, Marja, Gésinda and René I am proud to have worked side
by side with each and every one of you, important pillars of the BME. What I have learned is priceless. Dank jullie wel!
BME is much more than I could name. To the excellent professionals
working here with which I did not have a close contact, hereby I express my appreciation and best wishes.
My sweet Jan, I am sharing part of this conquest as appreciation for all the support and understanding. It was a match since the beginning. With your sensitivity you balanced my moments of hesitation or sadness. With the purest excitement you celebrated all my achievements. You took my battles as if they were your own battles. Thank you for being this amazing partner.
To Miura family I reserve a paragraph in Portuguese to express my gratitude. Família Miura, vocês fazem parte das minhas conquistas de forma direta ou indireta. Sou imensamente grata a todos que cuidaram de mim, que torceram pelo meu sucesso e que me apoiam mesmo de tão longe.
Life had gifted me with two father figures. Carlos and Julio, thank you for the upbringing and support. Thank you for being present and cheering with me. I know I was not always easy to you. Thank you for not giving up on me.

It is hard to express how grateful I am to my mom in few words. “Dona”
Márcia, I owe you great part of what I am today. Twenty nine years of pure
dedication and unconditional love. Thank you for all the caring. I acknowledge how much you had set aside to prioritize my studies and upbringing. You had instilled the importance of being dedicated to my qualification. You inspired me to be an independent and pro-active person. I offer you this thesis as a small sign of gratitude. I am immensely blessed to have come to this world as your daughter. I love you unconditionally. Pedro, thank you for supporting us both and for taking care of my precious. ;)
