Table 4: Summary Table

For variables of the regression analysis the summary information is given, covering 40 countries, 14 manufacturing industries and the years 1995-2011. Variables include the dependent variable, value added growth, which uses the change in gross value added volumes to measure industry growth. Independent variables include the share, which is an industry’s share in total value added for all manufacturing industries of the country. ED shows the dependence of an industry on external sources of finance, and this variable is assumed to remain constant across countries and time. Foreign distress is the share of foreign world exports in distress, which is separated by type of crisis. SD represents supplier dependence, which is the share of imported inputs to total inputs used in the manufacturing production process. This variable is calculated separately for the time periods, but assumed to remain constant across countries and time. Overall, there are three time periods used in the methodology. The first encompasses all years 1995-2011, but for the value added growth data is not available for the final two years. The second covers the years linked to the Asian Financial Crisis (1995-2004), and the third the years linked to the Global Financial Crisis (2005-2011).
