Acknowledgments

First of all I would like to thank my supervisors Matthias and Rob for the op-portunity to obtain the Double PhD Degree in their groups and their patient and close supervision. I really appreciated the thorough discussions and the friendly and constructive atmosphere.

Special thanks goes to the members of the Reading Committee, Dani ¨el Boer, Stefan Leupold, Sin ´ead Ryan and Achim Schwenk, for assessing my thesis and to the Examining Committee, Klaus Jungmann, Bira van Kolck and Rein-hold Walser, for their opposition.

Through the jungle of rules concerning the Double PhD Degree Markus Dom-schke, Ika Neven and Corinna Caspar-Terizakis supported me very much, thanks a lot!

As I was basically present at three institutes, I really appreciate the help of all secretaries involved: Annelien Blanksma, Iris de Roo-Kwant, Giovanna Um-berti Caroli, Gabriella Menge and Genette Kluckner.

Thanks, Roy and Alexander for agreeing to be my long-distance paranymphs. The nice first two years in Groningen were only possible in a positive atmo-sphere at the Van Swinderen Institute. Thanks to all my colleagues at VSI, especially to Ruud for discussions on literally any kind of sports, Femke for fruitful discussions on QFT and how to solve integrals, Arunesh for the re-minder that there is actually something outside of particle physics, Alexander for endless football discussions, Marco and Gideon for the support especially during the first weeks in Groningen, Pi for the first 3 years of the PhD, Florent for evenings with a lot of beer and Jan for the jokes about Germans.

(3)

Felix and Yonggoo for nice discussions related to all kinds of topics related and unrelated to this thesis. I would also like to thank Bengt Friman for agree-ing to be the senior mentor of my HGS-HIRe PhD Committee and fruitful discussions.

Special thanks goes to Stiftung Giersch for the financial support connected to the Giersch Excellence Award 2020.

Furthermore, I would like to acknowledge the sports clubs and all teammates who accompanied my PhD trajectory in a sportive way: my table tennis club GSTTV Idefix and my floorball clubs UC Face Off and ESC Darmstadt Dukes. Great thanks to my friends from the early university times: Jan, Ralph, Philipp, Jochen, Tobi and Thomas. It was always great to enjoy pizza and have a beer in the ‘Hobbit’.

During Corona times one of the few possible social activities was playing disc-golf. Thanks, Tim, Markus and Jens for exciting battles.

Last but not least I also want to mention all my other friends, who made the two years in Groningen and two years in Darmstadt so enjoyable, thanks Roy, Brankica, Sebastian, Jascha, Laura, Ina, Anbang, Ren ´e, Haiko, William, Jas and all the others, who I did not explicitly mention here.

Thank you all for your support during the last four years. Without you I would not have been able to finish this PhD project.

Vielen Dank Euch allen f ¨ur die Unterst ¨utzung in den letzten 4 Jahren. Ohne Euch w ¨are ich nicht in der Lage gewesen dieses Projekt positiv abzuschließen.
