Climate Prediction Center’s Hispaniola Hazards Outlook For USAID / FEWS-NET
December 20 – December 26, 2012
Reduced amounts of weekly rainfall was observed during the last week.
Another week of seasonably light rainfall was observed during the last week. The highest precipitation amounts were received in southern Gulf of Gonaives, bringing moderate (10-20mm) rainfall to the southern departments of Haiti. In the north, little to no rainfall was received during the last week after enhanced rains were observed across northern Hispaniola during mid-December.
Despite the recent reduction of rains in the north, many local areas continued to experience above-average rainfall over the last 30 days which is expected to provide favorable ground moisture for the development of winter crops. For the upcoming outlook period, precipitation forecasts suggest a continued decrease in rain showers across much of the island.
