During the last observation period rains were concentrated along the Pacific coast and south central Honduras southward.
In addition to the coastal regions of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, the western and coastal regions of Guatemala have had a start to the rainy season as well. Other portions of Guatemala have received approximately 50% of normal May rainfall accumulation. We can look forward to some improvement as rains head toward the region during the coming
observation period.
The above graphic from the USGS depicts the onset of rains as of the second ten day period (dekad) for the month of May. The graphic reflects the onset of rains in parts of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, and the Pacific coast of Guatemala. The purple colors show areas where rains started in April, blue areas are where rains started in May, and the yellow colors show areas that have not started.
