for the enhanced mass spectrometric quantification of biogenic amines 1. Het derivatiseren van biogene aminen met propionzuuranhydride verbetert de massaspectrometrische detectie van deze klasse stoffen (dit proefschrift). 2. In-matrix derivatisering maakt het mogelijk om chemisch verschillende,
maar metabool gerelateerde stoffen in één LC-MS/MS assay te kwantificeren. 3. De werkelijke uitdaging van een klinische massaspectrometrische assay zit
vaker voor dan in de massaspectrometer.
4. Kwantitatief profileren van indolmarkers verbetert de biochemische karakterisering van patiënten met een serotonine producerende neuroendocriene tumor (dit proefschrift).
5. Melatonine wordt niet opgeslagen in bloedplaatjes (dit proefschrift). 6. Herhaalde metingen van 6-sulfatoxymelatonine in urine verbeteren het
onderzoek naar de associatie van melatonine met diabetes en hartziekten. 7. Binnen de klinische chemie wordt met vloeistofchromatografie-tandem
massaspectrometrie nog te vaak een immunochemische assay nagebootst. 8. De toepassing van geautomatiseerde seriële metingen van hormoon
concentraties verbetert de diagnostiek van endocriene afwijkingen. 9. Ter bevordering van preventie dienen klinisch chemici hun
