The necessary infrastructure needs to be established and maintained, including:
• open access
• open data
• open code
• open cloud computing
We need to devise open science based metrics that help
Open science as a concept is accepted,
now we have to make it work!
We also need to introduce changes
into how we train, and into how we evaluate
We have to provide people with the right skillset
• Basic data management skills for everyone
• Basic data consumption skills for everyone
• Specialisation for Data Stewards
• Specialisation for Data Scientists
We need to stimulate and reward original thinking on the (re-)use of open data, as there is enormous potential there
Value is increasingly recognized to be found in (collections of) data from scientific research, and in shared code
Opportunities abound for those who wish to tap into the information made available through open science
Many of the most valuable companies on the planet
already know that large scale data analysis is very much
Open Science is actually expanding
the value of our research
If government and funders want open science to happen, they also need to step in financially and commit resources to the building of infrastructure, the provision of support, and the training of data scientists.
Funding Open Science is a crucial investment in the future!
Open Science requires a committed investment
Open Science will allow a small region to shine!
Flanders may be a small region, but it already punches well above its weight in international research output
As a small region, we will likely be a net consumer of open science information
We will thus stand to gain enormous opportunities if we are ready to capitalize on all this shared information
