Curriculum vitae

Qamar Bashir was born on 08 September 1978 in Jhang, Pakistan. He obtained his early education from different schools in Jhang and completed his bachelor at Government College Jhang. In 2002 he completed his M.Sc. degree in Chemistry with specialization in Organic Chemistry from Punjab University, Lahore. During his M.Sc., he performed research at the Pakistan Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, Lahore on the project “Synthesis and studies of acid dyes”. Soon after his M.Sc., he joined the School of Biological Sciences (SBS), Punjab University as a research student in biological sciences. His research involved “Mechanism and substrate stereochemistry of α–

oxoamine synthases”. During his research at SBS, he got interested in protein chemistry research. In 2006, he was awarded an overseas PhD scholarship from the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. Since October 2006, he has been a PhD student in the Protein Chemistry group at Leiden University under the supervision of Prof. Dr.

Marcellus Ubbink. His PhD research is entitled “Dynamics in Electron Transfer Protein Complexes”. The results of his PhD research are presented in this thesis.
