Biography

Koen E. A. van de Sande was born 1983 in Hoorn, The Netherlands. He received a BSc in Computer Science (2004), a BSc in Artificial Intelligence (2004) and a MSc in Computer Science (2007), all with honors, from the University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands. His interests include computer vision, object recognition, statistical pattern recognition, high-performance computing and software development. During his PhD he co-organized the VideOlympics show-case of video retrieval systems [99]. With his colleagues, he participated in many large-scale visual recognition benchmarks: ImageCLEF Photo Annotation (classification 2009-2011: 1st, 2nd, 4th), PASCAL VOC Challenge (classification 2008-2011: 1st, 3rd, 4th, 3rd, localisation 2010-2011: 3rd, 3rd), ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (classification 2011: 2nd, localisation 2011: 1st) and TRECVID (classification 2008-2011: 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd).
