Curriculum Vitae
Omid Tofighian has been a PhD candidate in Philosophy at Leiden University since October, 2005. He was born in Tehran in 1975 but left around the time of the Islamic Revolution to the United States for 4 years before immigrating to Australia (1982) where he completed a combined Honors degree in philosophy and studies in religion at the University of Sydney. Over the past six years he has lived in the UAE where he worked at Abu Dhabi University; Belgium where he was a visiting scholar at K.U. Leuven; The Netherlands to work on his PhD; and short periods in Iran and Australia. During this time he has organized numerous art and cultural events which focus on cultural awareness and social justice. These include painting exhibitions, cultural festivals, film screenings and music concerts. He recently launched a website detailing these events and future ones, see www.artculturetoday.com. He has published an article in From Pariah to the Pedestal – the bourgeoning of Iranian cinema, (forthcoming 2010. Seyed-Gohrab, A. and K. Talattof [eds.]); in The Journal for the Sydney Society for Literature and Aesthetics (forthcoming 2010); in Forum Philosophicum International Journal for Philosophy (forthcoming 2010); a chapter in International Handbook on the Preparation and Development of School Leaders, together with R.J.S. Macpherson (Routledge 2008); and two articles in Threskeiologia (The Greek Journal of Comparative Religion 2003 and 2005).
