1 - Sub-Saharan wetlands are the main wintering grounds of the remnant population of ruffs staging in The Netherlands during northward migration. Chapter 2 of this thesis.
2 – Upon northward migration, sub-Saharan Ruffs do not routinely reach Friesland in a single non-stop flight. Chapter 2 of this thesis.
3 – The dairy grasslands of Friesland constitute an important staging area for male ruffs wintering in Europe. Chapter 2 of this thesis.
4 - Individual heterogeneity in survival or reproduction should be incorporated in population models when a priory knowledge and empirical tests support their existence. Chapter 3 of this thesis
