visuele afwijking

Refractieve risicofactoren voor amblyopie
• Myopie – Bijziendheid
• Hypermetropie – Verziendheid
• Anisometropie – Verschil tussen 2 ogen
• Astigmatisme – Combi-afwijking in zelfde oog
MAAR OOK
• Strabisme – “fixatiefout”
• Cataract – “witte pupil”
• Retinoblastoom – “witte pupil”

●
“Success rates of Amblyopia treatment decline with increasing age”
10●
“Treatment of Amblyopia with glasses in preschoolers leads to improvement in letter recognition by
kindergarten”
11●
“Children with refractive error treated before 30 months have higher likelihood of achieving 20/20 vision”
11●
“Early screening, before amblyopia is more pronounced, can reliably detect amblyogenic risk factors in
children younger than 3 years of age, and we recommend initiation of photoscreening in children aged 1
year and older”
12●
“In this case series we found a high prevalence of amblyopia and strabismus. The results support the
importance of early preschool vision screening and spectacle correction of moderate to high hypermetropia
(>+3.50 D) to reduce the risk of amblyopia.”
13●
“Evaluation of the visual system should begin in infancy and continue at regular intervals throughout
childhood and adolescence. Serial visual system screenings in the medical home, using validated
techniques, provide an effective mechanism for the detection and subsequent referral of potentially
treatable visual system disorders.”

The Positive Predictive Value of Smartphone Photoscreening in
Pediatric Practices
• The positive predictive value (PPV) was 77% by 2003 American
Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus standards.
• CONCLUSION:
Smartphone photoscreening had PPV comparable with other
commercial objective screeners.

5 years is the typical lifespan of hardware based screeners. The calculation in the 5 Year Cost Estimate row adds the device purchase price,
warranty/repairs, and the technician/nurses administrative time at $15 per hour plus benefits. Because iScreen has a device purchase price
plus a price per screen, the screening fee is calculated at $5 per screen at 30 screens per month.
