The aim of this research is to learn more about Enterprise Social Software (ESS): An internal communication technology for organizations based on social software. It provides connection, interaction, sharing and collaboration for and between employees. Examples are: Yammer, Jive, Wiki’s and Sharepoint. Also, Google+ and Facebook can be used in this manner.

If you are not sure if you are using ESS, please read the following description: ESS is an organization’s use of a web-based platform that allows workers to

(1) communicate messages with specific coworkers or broadcast messages to everyone in the organization;

(2) explicitly indicate or implicitly reveal particular coworkers as communication partners; (3) post, edit, and sort text (e.g. blogs) and files linked to themselves or others;

(4) view the messages, connections, texts, and files communicated, posted, edited and sorted by anyone else in the organization at any time of their choosing.

The tools of ESS can help employees to access the knowledge and resources they need to collaborate.
