6.4 Conclusie
In dit onderzoek werd geen statistisch significant verschil in qol en normoverschrijdend handelen zes maanden na ontslag vastgesteld naargelang verscheidene schoolkenmerken van jongeren geplaatst in een GI: terugkeer naar school na ontslag, ontvangen van schoolondersteuning, gevolgde studierichting en behaalde schoolresultaten. Daarnaast blijkt dat vooral het ontvangen van steun uit de context en de terugkeerervaring naar school bepalend zijn voor het gegeven of adolescenten al dan niet naar school (blijven) gaan. Vanuit de bovenstaande bevindingen kan dan ook worden gesteld dat het essentieel is om op zoek te gaan naar jongeren hun educatieve behoeften en de begeleiding hierop af te stemmen. Verder dient in de begeleiding van de jongere voldoende aandacht te worden besteed aan het voorbereiden van de terugkeer naar school. Tevens is eveneens een blijvende ondersteuning waarbij jongeren en hun context begeleid worden in hun herstelproces, schooltraject en zoektocht naar een persoonlijk betekenisvol en prosociaal leven cruciaal. Tot slot is verder onderzoek aangewezen om op zoek te gaan naar welke schoolgerelateerde variabelen gelinkt kunnen worden aan een hogere kwaliteit van leven en aan het uitblijven van (herhalend) normoverschrijdend handelen bij jongeren geplaatst in een GI.
