Dit onderzoek kan uitgebreid worden door middel van meer beursgenoteerde bedrijven te betrekken in de steekproef dit kan wellicht het verschil tussen familie bedrijven en niet-familiebedrijven beter in kaart brengen.
In dit onderzoek is slechts gekeken naar beursgenoteerde familie bedrijven en beursgenoteerde niet-familiebedrijven in Duitsland. Het vergelijken van beursgenoteerde familiebedrijven in Duitsland met een beursgenoteerde familiebedrijven in een ander land zou in kaart gebracht kunnen worden.
Ten slotte is het wellicht interessant om familie bedrijven binnen verschillende sectoren in een land als Duitsland te vergelijken met elkaar. In dit onderzoek is geen onderscheid gemaakt tussen sectoren als het gaat om familie bedrijven.
