Addendum B 7 7 November 2011 The Principal ______________________________________ Dear Sir/Madam RÉ: PHD RESEARCH

I am currently busy with a PhD-degree at the North-West University, Vaal Triangle Faculty. My interest lies with finding out what the perceptions of educators, parents/caregivers and the learners in their care are on the status of educators who teach at public primary and secondary schools in the D7 district. The relevance of my research is dependent on involving (1) learners in Grades 7 and 10, (2) their parents/caregivers and (3) the educators at the selected primary and secondary schools. Permission to conduct my research has been obtained from the Gauteng Education Department.

I am aware of the fundamental rights of both learners and educators and am focused on taking their rights to safety/security and dignity into special consideration.

This letter is a polite request, asking for your assistance in being allowed to administer (1) a questionnaire to Grade 7/Grade 10 learners, (2) a questionnaire to their parents/caregivers and (3) a questionnaire to the educators at your school. Obviously I would contact you to confirm specific dates and times that would suit the school best.

As researcher, I would like to assure you of the fact that your school’s participation will remain anonymous. The data will be only be handled by my promoter, Prof. Elda de Waal, my statistical consultant, Ms Aldine Oosthuyzen, and me.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration of this important matter.

The relevance of my research is dependent on involving learners in Grade 6 and 10. I am aware of the fundamental rights of children and am focused on taking their rights to safety/security and dignity into special consideration.

My research is aimed at determining the viewpoints of teachers, parents/caregivers and Grade 6 and 10 learners at public primary and secondary schools in the D7 district regarding the status of teachers. The Department of Basic Education is worried about what learners and their parents/caregivers think of South African public school teachers.

This letter is a polite request: Will you please take part in my research by completing the questionnaire?

For your attention, the following aspects will be regarded as of the utmost importance: You will not have to write down your.

You will be able to withdraw at any time. You are invited to take part as a volunteer.

Your fundamental rights will be protected throughout the research process. If you agree to take part in my research, please just complete the block below. Thank you very much for your time.

I am currently busy with a PhD-degree at the North-West University, Vaal Triangle Faculty. My interest lies with finding out what the perceptions of educators, learners and their parents/caregivers are on the status of their educators. The relevance of my research is dependent on involving learners in Grade 7 and 10. I am especially aware of the fundamental rights of children younger than 18 years and am focused on taking their rights to safety/security and dignity into special consideration.

My research is aimed at determining the viewpoints of the selected learners at public primary and secondary schools in the D7 district. The national Department of Education is concerned about how negatively South African society seems to regard public school educators and my thesis is intent on adding scientific research in order to address this education dilemma. Mutual trust and respect between educators and learners are impossible if educators’ status is not valued highly.

This letter is a polite request: Would you please give your permission for your Grade 7 and/or Grade 10 learner or learners, ...(Name/s of learner/s) to complete the questionnaire that I have developed?

For your attention, the following aspects will be regarded as of the utmost importance:

 Learners will be invited to take part in the research as volunteers.

Beste Ouer/Versorger

Hierdie brief is ’n vriendelike versoek: Sal u asseblief u toestemming gee vir u Graad 7 en/of Graad 10 leerder of leerders, ...
