Curriculum vitae

Luz Marina Veth-Tello was born in Santafe de Bogota, Colombia, on 13th November 1962. She obtained her degree in biology at the Universidad del Valle (Cali, Colombia) in 1987. She worked for a year as research assistant at the Centro International de Agricultura Tropical (CIAT) Cali, Colombia. From 1989 to 1991 she was the manager of the propagation department of a Chrysanthemum and Gerbera farm located near Cali (Colombia). In August 1991 she moved to Szeged, Hungary, to join the group of Dr. L. Szabados and Dr. C. Koncz at the Biological Research Center as holder of a fellowship from the international UNESCO commission for a year training course on plant molecular biology. After this training she came to The Netherlands where she joined for five months the group of Prof dr. R. Verpooorte at the Center of BioPharmaceutical Sciences, Leiden University, as guest researcher. From September 1993 to April 1995 she was student at the university of Leiden where she obtained her doctoraal (MSc) diploma in biology with specialization in molecular biology. From July 1995 to January 2000 she worked as PhD student at the Institute of Molecular Plant Sciences of the same university in the group of Prof. dr. P.J.J. Hooykaas under the supervision of Dr. E.J. van der Zaal. After this period she worked as guest-researcher at the same institution to finish her thesis. Since September 2004 she is working at the department of registration of the College ter Beoordeling van Geneesmiddelen - Medicines Evaluation Board (CBG-MEB) in The Netherlands.

The identification of AIR1A, AIR1B and AIR3, three auxin-responsive genes from Arabidopsis which are expressed specifically in the outer cell layers of the parental root at sites

However, measurements of the lateral root density (visible lateral roots per cm primary root) showed that overexpression of AIR3 had no effect on the number of emerged laterals:

There is no evidence for the hypothesis that genes are activated in the outer cell layers of the root in response to the damage caused by the emerging lateral root as suggested

FASTA analysis indicates that AIR1A, AIR1B and AIR1A-like are the only genes encoding CLCT proteins lacking a proline- or glycine-rich region in the Arabidopsis genome.

The other mutant backgrounds, including slr-1 (Figure 2d), showed the same GUS expression as similarly treated wild type plants, thus a ‘ringed’ pattern in non-induced seedlings
