ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
This PhD project wouldn’t have been possible without support and guidance from many people. First of all, I would like to express my gratitude towards my supervisor, Prof. Frank Vanclay, for the patient guidance, encouragement and advice he has provided throughout my time as a PhD researcher. I have been extremely lucky to have a supervisor who cared so much about my work. I would also like to thank my co-supervisor, Dr. Peter Groote for always being ready to provide help whenever it was needed. Many other people also have contributed to my PhD. I would like to specially thank Jeannet, who has helped me navigating through many administrative procedures of the university, even when I was far away from Groningen. I am greatly indebted to Philippe who has paved the way for me and many other students of Social Impact Assessment. Philippe’s advices on academia and life in Groningen have made my short stays in Groningen memorable, useful and fun. I thank Nienke, who despite the busy schedule, agreed to become a paranymph. Her advices at the final stages of the PhD made it easier for me to complete the process. I would also like to thank Jasper, Lidewij, Karina, Angelo and many others who I met at the University of Groningen. Knowing that I had such friends in Groningen always filled me with jubilant anticipation when planning visits to the Netherlands. My special thanks go to my numerous respondents in Georgia for providing so much information and for helping me to understand often complex nuances of various projects selected for case studies. Throughout the PhD process, I have been blessed with love and support from my family members. They have been waiting for this day with great patience and were always able to provide support. This PhD was financially supported by the Netherlands Fellowship Program. I want to thank the Embassy of the Netherlands to Georgia and the program coordinator, Sophia, for kindly providing continuous support and guidance. Sincerely, David
