ALGEMEEN

Schoolontbijt/School breakfast Afgelopen woensdag hebben alle kinderen het nieuwe schooljaar geopend door middel van een heerlijk ontbijt. Alle groepen hadden een korte spreuk of liedje voorbereid om zich voor te stellen aan elkaar, waarna het smullen kon beginnen.

Dank je wel PLUS voor al het lekkers!

Last Wednesday, all children started the new school year with a delicious

breakfast. All groups had prepared a short saying or song to introduce themselves to each other, after which the feasting could begin. Thank you PLUS for all the goodies!

Even voorstellen/An introduction

Mijn naam is Marianne Verouden – vd Oetelaar. Ik ben 53 jaar en getrouwd met Jos. Samen hebben we twee

kinderen. Evi van 21, zij is bijna klaar met haar studie IBL en Jilles van 19, hij studeert aan de KLS. Ik woon in Veldhoven. Mijn hobby’s zijn zingen en toneel spelen. Ook hou ik erg van reizen, gelukkig kan dat nu weer!

Ik ben al ruim 30 jaar werkzaam in het onderwijs, altijd in groep 1-2. Ik heb lange tijd gewerkt op basisschool Op Dreef in Veldhoven en de laatste 12 jaar op OBS Dick Bruna, ook in Veldhoven. Vorige week ben

ik op deze school begonnen. Ik heb er heel veel zin in. Een kleinere school waar we alles samen doen, samen met collega’s en ook samen met de kinderen. Ik kijk ernaar uit om iedereen te leren kennen.

My name is Marianne Verouden – vd Oetelaar. I am 53 years old and married to Jos. We have two children together. Evi of 21, she is almost finished with her IBL studies and Jilles of 19, he studies at the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences. I live in Veldhoven. My hobbies are singing and acting. I also love to travel, luckily that is now possible again!

I have been working in education for over 30 years, always in group 1-2. For a long time I worked at Op Dreef primary school in Veldhoven and the last 12 years at Dick Bruna OBS, also in Veldhoven. I started at this school last week. I am really looking forward to it. A smaller school where we do everything together, together with colleagues and also with the children. I look forward to getting to know everyone

Groep 3-4

Veilig leren lezen/Learn to read safely

In groep 3 werken wij voor lezen en taal met de

methode Veilig leren lezen. Deze methode bestaat uit 13 kernen (hoofdstukken).

In group 3 we teach reading and language with the method Veilig leren lezen. This method consists of 13 cores (chapters).

Thema kern start: Jij en ik/Theme core start: You and me

In kern start maakt uw kind kennis met klasgenootjes, het lokaal, de juf/meester, de regels in de klas enzovoorts. Het thema van de kern is: ‘Jij en ik’. Uw kind maakt via het verhaal bij deze kern ook kennis met opa, zijn kleindochter Kim en haar vriendje Sim. Zij wonen op het Puddingboomplein. Kim heeft in dit verhaal net de ‘i’ geleerd en gaat op het plein op zoek naar deze letter.

At the beginning, your child gets acquainted with classmates, the room, the teacher, the rules in the class and so on. The core theme is "You and I". Through the story at this core, your child will also be introduced to grandpa, his granddaughter Kim and her boyfriend Sim.

They live on Puddingboomplein. Kim has just learned the 'i' in this story and is looking for this letter in the square.

Wat leert uw kind in kern start? /What does your child learn at the core?

De kinderen leren de komende twee weken de letters: i, k, m, s, en ze leren met die letters korte woordjes te maken en die te lezen, zoals: ik, kim en mis. Ook leren ze het verschil tussen leesletters en schrijfletters, de betekenis van nieuwe woorden, samen een verhaal lezen en praten over een verhaal, en regels en afspraken die gelden in de groep.

Over the next two weeks, the children learn the letters: i, k, m, s, and they learn to make short words with those letters and to read them, such as: ik, kim and miss. They also learn the difference between reading letters and writing letters, the meaning of new words, reading a story together and talking about a story, and rules and agreements that apply in the group.

Letterboom/Letter tree

Het komende halfjaar krijgt uw kind aan het eind van elke kern een kleurplaat mee naar huis. Alle kleurplaten samen vormen een letterboom. Uw kind krijgt binnenkort het eerste deel van de letterboom mee. Dit is een kleurplaat waarop opa het verhaal over de letter ‘i’ voorleest aan Kim en Sim. Wie goed kijkt, ziet dat de letter ‘i’ een aantal keren verstopt zit in de kleurplaat. Deze

kleurplaat is de onderkant van de stam van de letterboom. Aan het eind van kern start krijgen de kinderen deel twee van de letterboom mee naar huis. Hierop staan de letters die de kinderen hebben geleerd.

Uw kind kan aan de hand van de plaat vertellen wat het heeft geleerd. De groei van de boom kunt u zien als de groei van de letterkennis van uw kind. Na kern 6 zijn alle letters

aangeleerd en is de boom helemaal ‘volgroeid’. We hopen dat u thuis een mooi plaatsje voor de boom uitkiest!

For the next six months, your child will take home a coloring page at the end of each core. All coloring pages together form a letter tree. Your child will soon receive the first part of the letter tree. This is a coloring page where Grandpa reads the story about the letter 'i' to Kim and Sim. If you look closely, you will see that the letter 'i' is hidden a number of times in the coloring page. This coloring page is the bottom of the trunk of the letter tree. At the end of the core start, the children take part two of the letter tree home. This contains the letters that the children have learned.Your child can tell what he or she has learned from the picture.

The growth of the tree can be seen as the growth of your child's letter knowledge. After core 6, all letters have been learned and the tree is fully 'grown'. We hope you choose a nice place for the tree at home!

Deze kern hebben we inmiddels afgerond en we zijn gestart met kern 1. Hierin komt het volgende aanbod:

Thema kern 1: Beestenboel

In de vorige kern leerden we opa, Kim en Sim al kennen. Opa heeft een verzinselspet. Als hij die op heeft, kan hij prachtige verhalen vertellen. Dit keer vertelt hij over Trien en Troela, die in de supermarkt eitjes willen kopen. Maar de supermarkt is gesloten. In hun zoektocht naar een ei komen ze onder andere in de dierentuin en een dierenwinkel en eindigen ze in de kippenren. In het verhaal komen allerlei dieren voor. Het thema is: ‘Beestenboel’. De

kinderen leren onder andere de betekenis van verschillende dierennamen (de schildpad, de giraf, het nijlpaard) en van werkwoorden die bij dieren horen (sluipen, krijsen, kronkelen, draven).

We have now completed this core and we have started with core 1. This includes the following offer: Theme core 1: Animal Mess

In the previous core we already got to know grandpa, Kim and Sim. Grandpa has a fantasy cap. When he has it on, he can tell wonderful stories. This time he tells about Trien and Troela, who want to buy eggs in the supermarket. But the supermarket is closed. In their search for an egg, they end up in the zoo and a pet store and they end up in the chicken coop. There are many animals in the story. The theme is: 'Animals'. The children learn, among other things, the meaning of various animal names (the turtle, the giraffe, the hippo) and of verbs that belong to animals (sneak, screech, writhe, trot).

Letters en woorden lezen in kern 1/Reading letters and words in core 1

In kern 1 leren de kinderen de letters p, aa, r, e, v. Met deze letters en de letters van de vorige kern kunnen ze nu al zinnen en korte tekstjes lezen. Ze oefenen dit dagelijks met het boekje Veilig & vlot. Op de meeste pagina’s staan woorden en/of zinnen met woorden die bestaan uit een (medeklinker)-klinker-(medeklinker), zoals ‘raap’, ‘rem’ en ‘kip’, maar ook

‘aap’ en ‘er’. Op de pagina’s die we ‘snuffelpagina’s’ noemen, komen echter ook woordjes voor met twee medeklinkers achter elkaar zoals ‘spaar’ en ‘paars’. Kinderen die dat willen, mogen alvast aan dit soort woordjes ‘snuffelen’ en ze proberen te lezen. Ze hoeven deze woordjes nog niet foutloos en vlot te kunnen lezen of spellen.

In core 1 the children learn the letters p, aa, r, e, v. With these letters and the letters from the previous core they can already read sentences and short texts. They practice this daily with the booklet Safe & Smooth. Most pages contain words and/or sentences containing words consisting of a (consonant) vowel (consonant), such as 'raap', 'rem' and 'kip', as well as 'aap' and 'er'. However, the pages that we call 'sniff pages' also contain words with two

consonants in succession, such as 'spaar' and 'paars'. Children who want to can already 'sniff' at these kinds of words and try to read them. They do not yet have to be able to read or spell these words flawlessly and smoothly.

Elke kern een werkboekje/Each core a workbook

Uw kind krijgt bij elke kern een nieuw werkboekje. Als een kern is afgelopen, mag het werkboekje mee naar huis. U heeft misschien al gezien dat het werkboekje bij kern start volledig in kleur was, passend bij de feestelijke start van het schooljaar. Vanaf kern 1 hebben de werkboekjes (naast zwart en wit) alleen de kleur van de kern. Dit geeft de oefeningen een rustige uitstraling.

Your child will receive a new workbook with each core. When a core is finished, the workbook can be taken home. You may have already noticed that the workbook at core start was completely in color, matching the festive start of the school year. From core 1, the workbooks (besides black and white) only have the color of the core. This gives the exercises a calm appearance.

Software/Software

Op school oefent uw kind met de software van Veilig leren lezen. Onze school heeft ook een abonnement op de software voor thuis, zodat kinderen thuis op een tablet of pc nog meer kunnen oefenen op dezelfde manier en met dezelfde stof als op school. Door ook thuis te oefenen kunnen de kinderen punten verdienen waarmee ze hun boomhut in het programma mooi kunnen inrichten. En ondertussen werken ze aan hun leesvaardigheid en hun

woordenschat!

At school, your child practices with the Safe Learning to Read software. Our school also has a subscription to the home software, so that children can practice even more at home on a tablet or PC in the same way and with the same material as at school. By also practicing at home, the children can earn points with which they can decorate their tree house in the program. In the meantime, they are working on their reading skills and their vocabulary!

Staal taal /Steel language

Groep 4 is gestart met het thema ‘Start.

Elek nieuw thema start met een filmpje.

In de themafilm van ‘Start’ belandt een kind nietsvermoedend op de eerste schooldag in een

levend schoolbord. In de lessen daarna blijft spelen centraal staan. De kinderen leren woorden die met spelen te maken hebben, spelen met letters en woorden, leren speelse pictogrammen kennen, schrijven hun eigen spelregels bij het Staal-spel en presenteren die.

Group 4 started with the theme 'Start.

Every new theme starts with a movie.

In the theme film of 'Start', a child unsuspectingly ends up in an alive blackboard on the first day of school. In the lessons after that, playing remains central. The children learn words related to play, play with letters and words, get to know playful icons, write their own rules for the Steel game and present them.

Groep 5-6

Start schooljaar/Start of the school year

De kop is eraf, de eerste 1,5 week van schooljaar 2021-2022 zit er alweer op. Groep 5-6 heeft een fijne start gemaakt. Er is al veel aandacht besteed aan kennismaken met elkaar als groep, het (beter) leren kennen van elkaar en samenwerken. Hier wordt steeds veel plezier aan beleeft en dit blijft zeker nog even centraal staan. Daarnaast hebben we het samen ook over hoe we het dit schooljaar fijn kunnen hebben in groep 5-6. Natuurlijk is er ook gestart met de vakken en bijhorend thema’s. Bij Staal taal wordt er gewerkt rondom thema

‘ziekenhuis’. Spelling staat dit blok in het teken van herhalen van eerder geleerde categorieën. Ook bij rekenen is in eerste instantie veel aandacht voor herhaling. Het automatiseren t/m 20 en tafeltjes zijn hiervan een belangrijk onderdeel en worden dagelijks geoefend. Bovendien zijn we ook gestart met de lessen technisch- en begrijpend lezen. Hiervoor gebruiken we Estafette, Nieuwsbegrip en Beter bij leren.

The head is off, the first 1,5 week of the 2021-2022 school year is already over. Group 5-6 has made a good start.

Much attention has already been paid to getting to know each other as a group, getting to know each other

(better) and working together. This is always a lot of fun and this will certainly remain central for a while. In addition, we also discuss together how we can have a

good time in group 5-6 this school year. Of course, we also started with the subjects and corresponding themes. At Staal taal we work around the theme of the hospital. Spelling, this block is all about repeating previously learned categories. In math, too, a lot of attention is initially paid to repetition. Automation up to and including 20 and tables are an important part of this and are practiced daily. In addition, we have also started the technical and reading comprehension lessons. For this we use Estafette, Nieuwsbegrip and Beter bij leren.

Blink Wereld Aardse Extremen/Blink World Earth Extremes

Naast de kernvakken is er deze week ook een start gemaakt met de nieuwe methode voor wereldoriëntatie, genaamd Blink Wereld.

Met Blink Wereld zijn wij begonnen met het thema Aardse extremen. De kinderen onderzoeken verschillende aardse extremen en ontdekken hoe deze ontstaan. In de opdrachten vormen ze zich een breed beeld van het weer, klimaat en natuurlandschappen, zoals wolken en neerslag,

vulkanen, aardbevingen, tsunami's en orkanen.

In de bijlage bij deze nieuwsbrief is verdere informatie te lezen over dit thema.

In addition to the core subjects, a start was made this week with the new method for world orientation, called Blink World.

With Blink Wereld we started with the theme Earthly extremes. The children investigate different terrestrial extremes and discover how they arise. In the assignments they form a broad picture of the weather, climate and natural landscapes, such as clouds and

precipitation, volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis and hurricanes.Additional information about this theme can be found in the appendix to this newsletter.

Groep 7-8

Buro Halt/Office Halt

Afgelopen dinsdag hebben wij bezoek gehad van Buro Halt. De

uitgebreide voorlichting ging over ‘Invloed van de groep’. 75% van de jeugdcriminaliteit wordt gepleegd in groepsverband of onder invloed van groepsdruk. In deze voorlichting hebben leerlingen ervaren wat groepsinvloed is en hebben geoefend hoe zij met negatieve groepsdruk om kunnen gaan.

Last Tuesday we had a visit from Buro Halt. The extensive information was about 'Influence of the group'. 75% of juvenile crime is committed in groups or under the influence of peer pressure. In this information session, students have experienced what group influence is and have practiced how to deal with negative peer pressure.
