About the author

Maciej Grajewski was born in Poznań, Poland, on the 30th of April 1988. He studied Biotechnology

at the University of Life Sciences in Poznań, where he obtained both his B. Eng. and MSc. After finishing his studies, he did internship at University of Copenhagen, Denmark, where he studied molecular mechanism of plant-microbial interaction during pathogenesis. In November 2012, he started PhD studies in Pharmaceutical Analysis group chaired by Prof. E. Verpoorte at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. The research conducted during his PhD revolved around optimization of cell culture microenvironments for endothelial cells and development of a real-time method for monitoring of aforementioned cell type.

In July 2016, Maciej, together with his colleague, Gert Salentijn, decided to start a company SG Papertronics B.V. The aim of the company is to develop and commercialize technological concepts in the field of portable analytics.

In this report, we present an optimized channel geometry which allows reproducible seeding of a primary endothelial cell type obtained from umbilical cord veins (HUVEC)

However, the shear stress impact on cells in microchannels is visible and shows increased preference of VE-cadherin towards the membrane rim in narrower channels under

Blue and red traces represent changes in signal amplitude obtained from light scattering measurement for HUVEC over time, whereas the black trace represents a gelatin-coated

In order to confirm the changes in the HUVEC cytoskeleton that were observed with the optical chip after exposure to latrunculin A and jasplakinolide, offline experiments

Optical measurements of HUVEC micromotion in the optical chip mounted on the ICCP were performed for 3h and 24h cell culture under a shear stress of 1 dyn/cm 2 and

The materials were tested for (i) autofluorescence at three wavelengths (Protocol S4), (ii) compatibility with different solvents (water, methanol, acetonitrile, isopropanol,

This thesis describes two major topics that relate to the above, namely, the development of a miniaturized system to better mimic mammalian vasculature than
