During the period from October 21 - 31, 2007, the African portion of the ITCZ slowed its southward movement. It currently has a mean latitude of approximately 13.2 degrees north when averaged over the ten day period and from 15W-35E. This is slightly north of the normal position of 12.3 degrees N which for this dekad. In the west, from 10W-10E, the ITCZ was located near 13.7 degrees north, compared to the long term mean of around 12.9 degrees north, and a position last year of 13.5N. In the east, from 20E-35E, the ITCZ was located near 12.8N, compared with 12.5 N for the mean and last years position of 12.8N. The ITCZ had been moving south rapidly, but its progress has slowed down considerable. The African portion of the ITCZ now rests further north of normal. Local variations have the ITCZ located slightly south of normal in the far west. This is the final ITCZ analysis of the season. Analyses will resume with the first dekad of April.
