Biomass value pyramid: biocascading
➢ Using all the
components from biomass for value creation
➢ Implementation of cost effective energy efficient green
biorefinery processes
➢ Industrial symbiosis for complete
biomass valorisation
Greenextraction Bioceuticals
• Greenextraction are extraction processes which reduces
energy consumption, makes use of renewable solvents, and ensure a safe high quality product. (Chemat et al 2015)
• Natural ingredients
(secondary plant metabolites) sourced from botanicals,
existing crops/marines or side streams of biomass
processing.
Greenextraction scCO2 from labscale….
• Process development on lab scale
– Extraction Pmax 1000bar, Tmax 250C – Cosolvent Pmax 400bar
– Subcritical water Pmax 400bar, Tmax 150C

Deep Eutectic Solvents
• Mixtures of two or more (natural) components with eutectic point
• Eutectic mixture - hydrogen bonds (donors and acceptors)
• Preparation of DES at atmospheric pressure and temeperature to 100C
• Can be tailored to dissolve polar active botanicals which can not be solved in water
