Four holistic categories are presented; People, Process, Data, IT. Placed under the categories, the selected enablers and dimensions are defined.

1.1 | people enablers

Attitude.

Attitude regards the involvement of personnel direct and indirect related to PAM activities. For instance, it also considers the link between asset-operators and the maintenance department. Dimensions to unwrap are communication and collaboration between responsible employees for PAM related activities and evaluation of personnel direct and indirect related to PAM activities. Connect the people who share interfaces or, level knowledge.

Training.

Training is concerned with keeping knowledge up-to-date and the people’s technical capability to react on the circumstances. This is done bij providing training facilities, opportunities for upgrading of specific knowledge and encourage innovation and personal development. On the other hand companies should set up a skills and authorization program. They should regulate and reveal certified personnel.

1.2 | process enablers

Planning.

The planning cares about determining activities and sequencing, the materials needed and skills required. Therefore, Planning needs to be able to identify and determine predictive maintenance activities (based on predictive information system) and prioritize. Systematically distinguish between activities like for example inspections, diagnosis, corrections. Successive, planning of personnel have to be provided, as well as teams, components, maintenance equipment and consumables for each predictive activity.

Stock.

The stock process is concerned with storage policies, layout and determining stock-levels adjusted to the PAM principle. To do so, use proven mechanisms to determine stock-levels of materials and equipment used for PAM activities. Let Purchase interact with storage policies. And, ensure appropriate warehouse space on the right location for storing materials and equipment.

1.3 | data

Data collection.

Data collection is concerned with the acquisition and collection of PAM data. Connected to IT, data is further distributed. This becomes possible by making use of instrumentation applicable for condition monitoring (e.g. sensors). Install measuring and monitoring equipment for collecting the right data. Make use of norms and procedures for calibration. Perform periodic calibration and evaluation of instrumentation, condition monitoring equipment, predictive materials etc.

Records.

Records regards the processing and analysis of collected data. History and failure patterns are demonstrated. Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is performed. Maintenance activities are output. Regarding storage, store quality data and make it applicable for use, connect this to IT systems. Subsequently, use analytics and data mining. Perform (Root Cause) Analysis on extracted data; diagnose problem areas, recognize failure patterns and translate to concrete maintenance activities. Connect to IT systems and integrate this with planning.

Resources.

Resources considers the level of integration of predictive information systems with other information systems. Two things are necessary; software and hardware. Adequate software to treat and analyze data (e.g. SAS, OSys, Emerson, Smart Signal). Hardware to acquire and transfer predictive data, and available devices to support PAM activities (e.g. computers, servers). An CMMS ensures effective integration between the predictive software, the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and other performance management systems.

Work orders.

Work orders is about providing the right order on the right moment to the right person. Issuing of working orders can be done for each predictive activity, according to an adequate format. Consequently, provide levels of authorization for emitting working orders.
