Climate Prediction Center’s Central America Hazards Outlook June 02 – 08, 2020
• The western part of Guatemala has received moderate rainfall this past seven days
1) La Pasion river at El Pato station in Peten department has observed a high amount of overbed riverine activities last week, which will maintain a flooding polygon for the coming outlook period due to the continuation of moderate rainfall for the second consecutive week over the same area.

An alert of risk level of water has been released for La Pasion river at El Pato station in Peten department two weeks ago.
During the past week, an increase in rainfall was observed over Central America, with the largest amounts along the Atlantic facing countries of the region. Heavy downpours fell over western Guatemala, the frontier between El Salvador/Honduras/Guatemala, the eastern coastal area of Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama. In Guatemala, flooding, landslides, and many affected people were reported over many areas, in the southern and western part of Peten department two weeks ago which lead to keep the flooding warning due to the continuation of moderate rainfall avec the area. Meanwhile, light to moderate rain was widespread across the inland of Central America. An analysis of rainfall anomalies over the past thirty days, however, indicated that portions of Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, eastern El Salvador have received below-average rainfall, with deficits between 25-100 mm. The onset and continuation of seasonal rainfall is needed to reduce or eliminate moisture deficits and support agricultural activities over many local areas of the inland of Central America.
During the next week, well-distributed and likely to be above-average rain is forecast across Central America except the southeastern part of Honduras extended to the northwestern part of Nicaragua. While the forecast enhanced rain should help to erode moisture deficits over portions of Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, the consistent, abundant rain could exacerbate conditions on the ground even trigger new flooding and landslides over already-saturated areas of western Guatemala and other water saturated areas in Honduras.
