The USAID FEWS-NET

Haiti Weather Hazards and Benefits Assessment

For

August 23 – August 29, 2007

FEWS NET is a USAID-funded activity whose purpose is to provide objective information about food security conditions. Its views are not necessarily reflective of those of USAID. The FEWS NET weather hazards assessment process and products include participation by FEWS NET field and home offices, NOAA-CPC, USGS, NASA, and a number of other national and regional organizations in the countries concerned. Hurricane Dean did not make a direct hit to the island. However strong

winds and rains associated with the storm did cause localized flooding in

coastal towns and structural damage in addition to four deaths. It is likely

that these conditions will have an impact on the sowing of second season

crops.
