Christine Frederike Wilhelmine Vermeulen

was born on August 22nd 1975 in Kock- engen, the Netherlands. She obtained her Gymnasium diploma at the “Eerste VCL” in Th e Hague in 1993. In the same year she started her Medical Studies at the Leiden University and graduated with the research project “Cervical Lesions and Human Papil- lomavirus in an Unscreened and Unselected Population of Bush-Negroes”, supervised by Dr E.J.T. Krul in 1998. Subsequently, she worked as a PhD student at the Departments of Pathology and Gynaecology, Leiden Uni- versity Medical Centre in Leiden on the re- search projects described in this thesis under supervision of Prof. Dr G.J. Fleuren (Pathol- ogy) and Prof. Dr A.A.W. Peters (Gynae- cology). In February 2002 she commenced with her House Offi cer years (Co-assis- tentschappen) and obtained her medical de- gree in November 2003. Th e following years she worked as a research physician in sum- mer and a ski and snowboard instructor in winter. During this period she co-supervised research projects of the Leiden Cytology and Pathology Laboratory in Leiden (Head Dr M.E. Boon). April 1st 2006 she started as a resident at the Department of Gynaecology

& Obstetrics, Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis in Delft (Opleider Dr W.A. ter Harmsel). Janu- ary 2008 she will continue her residency at the Department of Gynaecology & Obstet- rics, LUMC in Leiden (Opleiders Prof. Dr H.H.H. Kanhai and Prof. Dr G.G. Kenter).
