Climate Prediction Center’s Hispaniola Hazards Outlook March 12 – March 18, 2015

Suppressed rains expected throughout Hispaniola during the next week.

In early March, a seasonable distribution of light to locally moderate amounts of precipitation was received throughout Hispaniola. The highest weekly accumulations were again received in the Gulf of Gonaives region Since the beginning of February, satellite rainfall analyses depict mostly neutral conditions across the island, with higher than average rainfall accumulations over then northern coastline of Hispaniola. The enhanced rains and short-term moisture surpluses in northern Hispaniola were associated with an increase in frontal boundary passages throughout the Caribbean during February, which is expected to benefit ground conditions. For next week, a mild suppression in precipitation is expected over much of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
