Een zorgvuldige selectie van de patiënt en behandeling bepaalt voor een belangrijk deel het succes van de uitkomst na een invasieve behandeling bij ouderen met een oesofaguscarcinoom. (dit proefschrift)

De keuze voor definitieve chemoradiotherapie bij patiënten met een plaveiselcelcar-cinoom van de oesofagus en meerdere co-morbiditeiten is gerechtvaardigd. (dit proefschrift)

De behandeling met neoadjuvante chemoradiotherapie voor het slokdarmcarcinoom is van invloed op de definitie van de circumferentiële resectiemarge. (dit proefschrift) Extramurale veneuze invasie is een belangrijke prognostische parameter voor het lokaal gevorderde slokdarmcarcinoom. (dit proefschrift)

Extramurale veneuze invasie dient standaard onderzocht en vermeld te worden in de pathologische beoordeling van het resectiepreparaat van de slokdarm. (dit proefschrift)

“Salvage esophagectomy” bij patiënten met een geïsoleerd lokaal recidief na initiële chemoradiotherapie voor een slokdarmcarcinoom lijkt gerechtvaardigd mits uitgevoerd in een gespecialiseerd centrum. (dit proefschrift)
