Climate Prediction Center’s Central Asia Hazards Outlook August 7 – August 13, 2014

Temperatures:

During early August, temperatures generally ranged in the upper 30’s throughout southern Kazakhstan, with a continuation of cooler temperatures in the lower to mid 20’s in the northern provinces of the country. Since mid-July, temperatures have been mostly below average throughout Kazakhstan, with negative departures between 3 to 6 degrees in the north. Further south, temperatures have shifted from seasonable to below-average throughout Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan. For the upcoming week, a gradual warming is expected, with maximum weekly temperatures forecast in the mid to upper 30’s throughout Kazakhstan and in the lower 40’s further south.

Precipitation

In the last seven days, a continued increase in rainfall continued was received throughout northern and eastern Kazakhstan, with low to little amounts in the southern and western parts of the country. Since May, many parts in the northwest, northeast and southeast have received consistently below average rainfall, which may negatively impact ground conditions the development of seasonal crops. For the upcoming outlook period, an seasonable rainfall is forecast in northern Kazakhstan, with light to locally moderate amounts in the west.
