Climate Prediction Center’s Hispaniola Hazards Outlook February 22 – 28, 2018

Little to no rainfall expected over Hispaniola during the next week

From February 12-18, suppressed rains were observed throughout much of Hispaniola, with the exception of the northern portions of the Dominican Republic, where light to locally moderate rains were received, according to gauge measurements. Over the past thirty days, marginal anomalies dominated Hispaniola, while since the beginning of December of the past year; near to above-average rainfall was observed across much of the Island, with seasonal surpluses over central and southern Haiti and portions of southern Dominican Republic. This could indicate a favorable and near normal evolution of the December-April rainfall season over the region. As a result, vegetation conditions were average to above-average throughout most areas, based on the most recent vegetation indices. During the next week, a continuation of drier weather patterns is expected over Hispaniola. However, light to locally moderate rains are possible along the coasts of southern Haiti and northeastern Dominican Republic.
