Belgian commitment: VL, BXL (pays fee), (Walloon region dropped out CIS Urban BE, but participates in ERANET calls directly)
New website Calls:
‐ ENSCC: grant agreements signed, projects launched
‐ ENSUF: full proposals submitted and under review (for BE: FWO, Innoviris and FNRS)
‐ ENSUGI (Smart Urbanisation Global Initiative): Food, water, energy nexus, now under preparation: joint call with the Belmont Forum
GPC: WG group on JPI long term laid down proposal workplan 2018‐2020 (workshops P2P and GPC to follow in november)
JPI Chairs: common JPI communication strategy, JPI’s joint brochure CSA: SEISMIC project succesfully finalised, new CSA EXPAND launched
SAB: members are invited for new term, additional members are being discussed, profile?
UERA: General assembly installed, steering board, coordinator and chairperson elected;
collaboration with EERA Smart Cities enhanced; COST action in preparation, workshop at Smart City Expo World Congress in Barcelona, plan for Summer school, etc…
Action plans
1. Updated call agenda: based on call scenarios and national feedback 2. TF on call development to address:
• perceived lack of true ‘innovation projects’
• reduce excessive underspending, and excessive oversubscription (resulting in low success rates)
• reduce imbalances (number of participants claiming to specific FA’s insofar not related to available budget)
• simplifying framework conditions
3. Funding Agencies Working Group is being continued
4. Innovation Action: FA’s + MB, focus on innovative projects, close to implementation and rely on a challenge‐driven approach, where the problem‐owners (such as cities) are central.
5. Alignment of national programmes and strategies, mapping of national projects
6. Mobility as a Service (MAAS): exploratory workshops 7. Alignment with structural funds (RRI path, …)
8. Programme management: portfolio analysis, project database, …
OUTREACH
Societal: civil actors, governments and industry
• SEISMIC CSA set up 10 national networks on mutual learning,
• At SEISMIC end conference networks were
handed over to Urban Europe, who will integrate them in SIP (Stakeholder Involvement Platform) under the EXPAND CSA

Internationalisation
CSA for EU‐China‐Urbanisation platform granted, project start
expected 2017, first preparatory workshop in Ningbo end of november Exploring collaboration with Euro‐India Centre on match making event in Laroche in 2017

Internationalisation strategy will be further developed under EXPAND, drawing on ENSUGI experience.
Impact
‐ UE has been drawn in by EC on numerous occasions to support development of EU Urban Agenda
‐ Chair of the JPI only research representative in EIP Smart Cities and Communities steering board
‐ Chairing sessions in European Week of Cities and Regions
‐ Urban Europe panel discussant invited to UN Habitat III conference in Quito
- József Györkö (ARRS) is nominated by JPI Urban Europe to represent in EC High Level Advisory Board on Open Science
JPI Urban Europe has 13 members: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands,
Norway, Slovenia Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Turkey are observers, as well as the European Commission. More countries are involved in specific JPI Urban Europe activities.
