Climate Prediction Center’s Central Asia Hazards Outlook November 7 – November 13, 2013

Temperatures:

Temperatures averaged 3 to 7 degrees C above-normal across most of Kazakhstan from October 27-November 2, while temperatures averaged near to slightly below-normal across the remainder of Central Asia. Unlike the previous few weeks, minimum temperatures were above freezing across the lower elevations of the region during the past week. During the next week, temperatures are forecast to average near to slightly above-normal.

Precipitation

During the past week, northern Kazakhstan received light to moderate precipitation (2 to 14 mm), while light snow likely fell in the mountains of northeast Afghanistan and Tajikistan. Precipitation anomalies are close to average during the past 30 days. Dry weather is forecast during the second week of November across Kazakhstan, while additional light snow can be expected across the central highlands and northeast mountains of Afghanistan.

Note: The Hazards outlook map is based on current weather/climate information, short and medium range weather forecasts (up to 1 week), and assesses their potential impact on crop and pasture conditions. Shaded polygons are added in areas where anomalous conditions have been observed. The boundaries of these polygons are only approximate at this continental scale. This product does not reflect long range seasonal climate forecasts or indicate current or projected food security conditions.
