Consequences of disease and treatment in

ANCA-associated vasculitis

1. Pregnancy in female ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) patients in stable remission are frequently successful and should not be discouraged (this thesis)

2. Primary ovarian insufficiency frequently develops after treatment with cyclophosphamide. Therefore, the usages of cyclophosphamide should be minimized, but not necessarily withheld completely (this thesis)

3. Androgen deficiency should be considered as a cause of both impaired health-related quality of life, and fatigue in men treated for AAV (this thesis)

4. While glucocorticoid sensitivity in AAV patients is a new field of research, it could be the key to optimal glucocorticoid treatment (this thesis)

5. Withdrawal of glucocorticoids in a standardized tapering regime is physiologically unsound and not in line with practicing evidence-based medicine (this thesis)

6. Sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim should be considered first-line therapy in patients with localized or limited granulomatosis with polyangiitis and low CRP (this thesis)

7. Mycophenolate mofetil, when administered to the correct subgroup of patients, is an effective and safe alternative for cyclophosphamide in the treatment of relapses of PR3 and MPO-ANCA positive vasculitis (this thesis)

8. Succes is niet hoe goed je problemen kunt ontwijken, maar wat je er mee doet als je ze tegenkomt – Manouk Minneboo

9. When we all remember we are all mad, the mysteries disappear and life stands explained – Mark Twain

10. If you think adventure is dangerous, try routine; it's lethal – Paulo Coelho
