Engineering amidases for peptide C-terminal modification

Knowledge is the arms with which one fights (Allama Iqbal)

1. The substrate scope of amidase signature enzymes cannot be predicted from

structural similarities.

2. Peptide amidase is an attractive addition to the toolbox of enzymes for chemoenzymatic synthesis and peptideC-terminal modifications.

3. Slightly thermostable enzymes are better targets for thermostability engineering than thermolabile variants.

4. There is no necessity for a protein to rigidify in order to increase its melting temperature.

5. The use of computational design to engineer thermo- and solvent-stability of enzymes requires a crystal structure.

6. Combining consensus-based mutations does not guarantee an increase in enzyme stability.

7. Failures in research should be included in scientific reporting. 8. If you are going abroad for research, keep your family with you.

9. The social system enacted by Islam is more visible in the Dutch society than in the Muslim world.

10. Themajority of science students in Pakistan aim to become medical doctors, which should be discouragedin favor of stimulating interest in research.

11. The lack of collaboration betweenindustry and academia is the largest bottleneck in development of science in Pakistan.
