DANKWOORD

Dankwoord

Liggend op een strand 8500 kilometer van huis, schrijf ik de eerste zinnen van dit dankwoord. Een perfecte plek om zowel letterlijk als figuurlijk van een afstand terug te kijken op vier jaar promotieonderzoek.

Ten eerste wil ik alle patiënten bedanken die toestemming hebben verleend tot gebruik van hun gegevens voor onderzoek. Dankzij jullie kunnen wij ons onderzoek doen! Prof.dr. Ph. Scheltens, beste Philip, in 2010 studeerde ik af aan de faculteit der geneeskunde van de Vrije Universiteit en was jij bij toeval lid van mijn examencommissie. Ik weet nog goed dat ik van jou het advies kreeg om eerst te gaan promoveren als ik verder wilde in de neurologie, want “de gouden weg loopt via de promotie”. En wat ben ik blij dat ik dat advies heb mogen opvolgen bij jouw centrum! De afgelopen vier jaar heb ik het Alzheimercentrum flink zien groeien, waarbij het groot-groter-grootst werd. En toch voelt iedereen zich onderdeel van één geheel en dat hebben we zeker ook voor een groot deel aan jou te danken.

Prof.dr. W.M. van der Flier, beste Wiesje, vier jaar terug was genetica niet alleen voor mij een nieuw onderzoeksgebied. Samen hebben we gaandeweg ontzettend veel geleerd. Zo kwamen we erachter dat genetica vooral een zaak is van grote getallen en dat genetische statistiek toch net weer een andere tak van sport is. Ik heb veel gehad aan jouw scherpe, analytische blik en motiverende enthousiasme. En wat was het stiekem leuk als ons

SORL1 gen toch telkens weer om de hoek kwam kijken! Jouw professorschap is dubbel

en dwars verdiend.

Dr. H. Holstege, beste Henne, sinds 2011 hoor jij ook bij ons Alzheimercentrum en wat ben ik daar blij om. Vanuit het (biomedische) onderzoek naar de genetica van borstkanker heb jij weer een andere blik op de genetica van dementie. Ondanks de drukte, werkte jij vaak nog in de avonduren door om data voor mij te extraheren of om artikelen te becommentariëren. Heel veel dank voor je enthousiasmerende begeleiding en ik kijk uit naar de eerst resultaten van jouw 100+ studie!

Prof. Dr. J.C. van Swieten, beste John, dank voor je begeleiding op afstand vanuit Rotterdam en vanuit de belkamer hier op het Alzheimercentrum.

We hadden vooraf natuurlijk al een beetje kunnen voorzien dat een studie over PPA enige semantische discussie op gang zou kunnen brengen, maar dat het zo uitgebreid zou worden...Toch ben ik heel erg blij dat we doorgezet hebben en dat ik de studie in mijn proefschrift heb kunnen opnemen. Want wat blijft afasie toch een super interessant onderwerp. Heel erg bedankt voor al jullie tijd en moeite die jullie erin hebben gestoken en stiekem hoop ik dat wij samen in de toekomst nog meer gaan samenwerken in het PPA onderzoek.

Beste Petra, dank voor de fijne samenwerking aan de studie naar de SORL1-familie. Heel veel succes ook met je eigen promotie!

Beste Femke, Evelien, Niels en (nogmaals) Yolande en Philip, dank voor de supervisie op de geheugenpoli. Ik heb het als heel waardevol ervaren dat ik mijn onderzoek heb kunnen combineren met klinisch werk op de geheugenpoli. Vanuit jullie specialisatie kijken jullie net weer allemaal met een iets andere blik, wat elke keer weer zeer leerzaam blijkt te zijn.

Tot mijn grote geluk kwam ik in 2012 terecht in bunker 2. Ik had het niet beter kunnen treffen! Marissa, Lieke, Maja, Christiane, Lotte, Saskia, Jurre en Tessa, dank voor de gezelligheid en onze legendarische vier uur momentjes! Rosalinde en Annebet, wat fijn dat jullie mij willen bijstaan tijdens de verdediging. Zeer geruststellend om jullie twee als paranimfen naast mij te hebben staan!

Meiden (en Eddy) van de seniorenkamer 2 (ook wel bekend als de leukste bunker, stafkamer of semiorenkamer), naast het vele typen wat waar daar deden was het gewoon ook erg gezelig. Daniela, Nienke, Marije, Marissa en Jessica, ik ga jullie missen!

DANKWOORD

Beste dr. Merkies, tijdens mij 1.5 jaar als ANIOS in het Spaarne Ziekenhuis heeft u mij niet alleen veel geleerd over de neurologie, maar mij ook geënthousiasmeerd voor het wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Heel veel dank daarvoor.

HoJan, Caro en Gusta, ondertussen is het alweer bijna 13 jaar geleden dat we afstudeerden van het Zaanlands, maar wat leuk dat we elkaar nog steeds zien! Door drukte en/of vele kilometers afstand zie ik jullie minder dan ik zou willen. Maar de momenten dat we elkaar zien zijn altijd weer super gezellig; dus tot snel!

Wendy, al vanaf de IDEE week zijn we niet alleen studiegenoten, maar ook echt vriendinnen. Ook al dreig je steeds meer naar het zuiden af te zakken, ik hoop dat we nog vele eet- en bios dates zullen hebben.

Ideke, onze acht weken huisarts co-schap op Texel heeft een mooie basis gelegd voor onze vriendschap. Ik verwacht dat we de komende jaren nog veel lief en leed met elkaar zullen delen. Ik kijk er nu al naar uit.

Femke en Anne, waar samenwonen op 65m2_{toch al niet goed voor kan zijn. Alledrie}

zijn we qua specialisatie een andere kant opgegaan, wat ook weer genoeg gesprekstof op levert. Ik hoop dat we nog vele gezellige en sportieve avonden zullen hebben. Marion, Ton, Anneke en Laura, jullie zijn ondertussen ook echt familie geworden. Dank dat jullie mij vanaf het begin zo welkom hebben laten voelen in Haarlem en in Frankrijk. Simon en Willem Frederik, gelukkig blijf ik altijd jullie kleine zusje en jullie mijn grote broers. En Tessa, als jij dit leest is jullie klein zoontje al geboren; ik vind het zo leuk om tante te worden.

Pap en mam, dank voor alle mogelijkheden en steun die jullie mij altijd geboden hebben. Het voelt heel fijn om te weten dat ik altijd bij jullie in mijn oude, vertrouwde huis in de Wijdewormer terecht kan.

Eva Louwersheimer was born on the 10th_{of November, 1984}

in Purmerend.

She grew up in the Wijdewormer with her parents and her two older brothers. In 2003 she graduated high school (gymnasium) at Het Zaanlands Lyceum in Zaandam, and started studying Medicine at the VU University in Amsterdam.

During her study her interest in neurology arose, which resulted in following the elective course Neuroscience. She performed her research internship at the Alzheimer center under supervision of prof.dr. WM van der Flier and wrote a review about the visual versus volumetric measurement of hippocampal atrophy on MRI.

She obtained her medical degree in 2010 and continued working as a resident at the Neurology Department of the Spaarne Ziekenhuis in Hoofddorp.
