About the author

Fleur Goedkoop was born on February 15th 1989 in Groningen, The Netherlands. After she completed her secondary education (VWO) she enjoyed a short career as tennis athlete in Enschede, after which she continued her academic path in Groningen. Here she studied Sociology at the University of Groningen, where she participated in several extracurricular activities such as the Honors program. She obtained her Bachelor’s degree in 2013 (Cum Laude), followed by a Research Master degree in 2015 in Behavioral and Social Sciences (Cum Laude). During her master studies she engaged in an internship at the University of Exeter at the College of Life and Environmental Sciences with prof. Patrick Devine-Wright. Here she collected data for a study which ultimately became part of this thesis and was published in a peer-reviewed journal. Soon after, she started working as a PhD candidate at the Department of Sociology in Groningen, supervised by Jacob Dijkstra and Andreas Flache. During her PhD, she was a visiting scholar for three months at the University of California, Davis at the Center for Environmental Policy and Behavior with prof. Mark Lubell. Fleur presented at several (inter) national scientific conferences, workshops and seminars for local energy groups, NGOs, companies, and policy makers. She also participated in several committees and organized various workshops during her PhD. As of August 2020, she is working as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Public Administration and Sociology at the Erasmus University Rotterdam researching the governance of and participation in collective sustainable heating systems.
