CHAPTER 14

Wout is op 23 maart 1987 in Lemelerveld geboren. Na het

gymnasium aan het Carmel College in Raalte in 2005 te

hebben afgerond, is hij in Enschede aan de Universiteit

van Twente Technische Geneeskunde gaan studeren. De

driejarige master Robotics and Imaging heeft hij in 2013

afgerond, na een afstudeerstage in het Medisch Spectrum

Twente in Enschede, op de afdeling Longgeneeskunde.

Hier heeft hij onder leiding van dr.ir. F.H.C. de Jongh een

navigatiesysteem voor een echo-endoscoop ontwikkeld,

waarmee lymfeklieren in het mediastinum nauwkeuriger

kunnen worden gebiopteerd.

Vervolgens is Wout naar Groningen gegaan en heeft hij

bij de radiologie afdeling en het Center for Medical

Imaging aan het Universitair Medisch Centrum Groningen het onderzoek beschreven in

dit proefschrift uitgevoerd onder leiding van prof. M. Oudkerk en dr. K.P. de Jong.

Sinds oktober 2018 is hij werkzaam als postdoc bij het klinisch implementatieteam in

het Nederlands Kanker Instituut - Antoni van Leeuwenhoekziekenhuis, waar hij

onderzoek doet naar

image-guidance

en het gebruik van navigatieapparatuur tijdens

complexe operaties.

In zijn vrije tijd houdt hij van sporten: hardlopen, wielrennen, mountainbiken,

squashen. Verder sleutelt hij graag aan zijn oldtimer, een Volvo Amazon.

Wout was born on the 23

rd

of March, 1987, in Lemelerveld. He graduated in 2005 from

the Carmel College in Raalte and started the study Technical Medicine at the University

of Twente, in Enschede. He finished the three-year master program Robotics and

Imaging in 2013. For his graduation internship at the department of Pulmonary Disease

at the Medisch Spectrum Twente in Enschede, he developed a navigation system for an

ultrasound endoscope to facilitate accurate biopsy of lymph nodes in the mediastinum,

under the supervision of dr.ir. F.H.C. de Jongh.

Subsequently, Wout moved to Groningen where he performed the research described

in this dissertation at the department of Radiology and the Center for Medical Imaging

at the University Medical Center Groningen, under supervision of Prof. M. Oudkerk and

dr. K.P. De Jong.

In October 2018, he started with postdoctoral research in the clinical implementation

team, at The Netherlands Cancer Institute, in Amsterdam. He is researching the use of

image-guidance and navigation equipment during complex procedures in the operation

theater.

In his spare time, he likes to run, ride his (mountain) bike and play squash. Also, he

spends time trying to fix his old-timer car, a Volvo Amazon.
