Curriculum Vitae

Wouter Nicolaas Wermink was born May 21st 1982 in Zwolle, The Netherlands. He lived with his family in Ommen. He attended the elementary school St. Bernardus and afterwards the first two years of high school at the Regge Vecht College in Ommen. He finished Athenuem in 2000 at the Thomas a Kempis college in Zwolle.

In August 2000 he started his M.Sc. studies in Chemische Technologie at Universiteit Twente in Enschede, The Netherlands. During his studies he was actively involved in the student union C.T.S.G. Alembic as treasurer of the symposium committee from 2001 till 2002 and member of the editorial of the monthly magazine from 2002 till 2004. From 2005 till 2006 he was a member of the editorial of the monthly magazine of the sports union A.S.V. Arashi. In 2005 he completed his internship at Shell Global Solutions in Amsterdam entitled ‘Flow regime characterization of tubular packed beds under ambient conditions with water/air’ under the supervision of dr. ir. H.P. Calis. In May 2006 he finished his master thesis at Universiteit Twente in the department Ontwikkeling en Ontwerp van Industriële Processen entitled ‘Determining kinetics and equilibrium constants for the synthesis of diphenyl carbonate from dimethyl carbonate and phenol’ under the supervision of dr. ir. Jens Haubrock.

After graduation in 2006 he joined Procede Group BV as a process engineer and from 2015 as a senior process engineer. He worked on several projects, including a/o the novel biofuel GTBE®, the novel desulphurization process Vitrisol®, VOC removal via adsorption, acid gas removal, novel alcohol-free beer production technology. The work included laboratory work, thermodynamic, kinetic and reactor modeling, process design, estimates and proposals, techno-economic evaluations, consulting, patent writing, project management. He was on secondment to Sasol Technology in Enschede from October 2006 till April 2008, to Norit in Enschede from May 2007 till October 2007 and to FrieslandCampina in Beilen from July 2010 till March 2011. In 2010 he became a member of the Procede Personeelsvereniging, which he chaired from 2013 till 2015. In 2011 he became project leader of the ISPT project OG-10-05 ‘Removal and recovery of sulphur components from natural gas’ which resulted in the present dissertation entitled ‘Development and design of the in-situ regeneration section of Vitrisol®, a novel, highly selective desulphurization process.’ In 2017 he assumed the position of CTO of the GTBE Company N.V.
