1922-10-13 - 1966 On April 20, 1922, on behalf of the admirers of Mondrian's work P. Alma offered the painting by letter to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as a gift. On April 21, also by letter, the director of the Rijksmuseum, F. Schmidt-Degener, let Alma know that the Rijksmuseum was not the proper place for modern art, and referred him to the Stedelijk Museum. On October 13, 1922, on behalf of the committee for the purchase of a work by Mondrian, Alma offered the painting by letter to the Stedelijk Museum, on loan, for a period of three years. On November 10, 1922, the city council of Amsterdam accepted the loan for a period of five years (Welsh/Joosten 1998).
