Curriculum vitae

Daan Brandenbarg was born on April 21rh, 1985 in Hengelo (o), the Netherlands. In 2004 he

graduated from secondary school at Lyceum de Grundel in Hengelo. From 2004 to 2012 Daan studied Human Movement Sciences at the University of Groningen. He obtained his Master of Science in Human Movement Sciences with a specialization in functional recovery and rehabilitation. His masters’ thesis was about visual control of human locomotion.

From 2011 to 2012 Daan briefly worked as a coordinator for the platform “Zorg Geen Markt”. From 2013 to 2017 he performed a PhD study at the department of General Practice and Elderly Care Medicine, which resulted in this thesis, under supervision of Prof. dr. M.Y. Berger (general practitioner), Prof. dr. G.H. de Bock (epidemiologist), and dr. A.J. Berendsen (general practitioner). During his PhD research he received training as epidemiologist B from the Epidemiological Society in the Netherlands.

From 2014 to 2016 he was also employed as a research assistant at the department of Rehabilitation of the University Medical Center Groningen, in a project studying the influence of different prosthetic knees on the gait pattern of patients with an upper leg amputation. In 2015 Daan started as a city council member in Groningen, a position he still holds at the time of this thesis.

Currently, Daan works as a post-doctoral researcher at the department of General Practice and Elderly Care Medicine at the University Medical Center Groningen in a project entitled “Towards evidence-based and broadly supported protocols for cancer follow-up in primary care”.
