A reduction in rainfall is expected to partially relieve oversaturation over parts of Central America during the next period.

During late October to early November, heavy showers were received over western and southern Guatemala, the Gulf of Fonseca, southeastern Nicaragua, and parts of the southern Caribbean. Moderate to locally heavy rains were also registered across northern and eastern Guatemala, western Honduras, and central Nicaragua. This past week’s abundant rains resulted in flooding and landslides over local areas of Guatemala, including the Sacatepéquez, Sololá, and Suchitepéquez Departments, according to reports. During October, above-average rainfall was recorded along the Pacific- facing region of Central America, including much of Guatemala, El Salvador, western Honduras, western Nicaragua, and parts of western Costa Rica.

Thirty-day rainfall surpluses exceeded 200 mm over local areas of southwestern Guatemala, western Honduras, and the Gulf of Fonseca. Conversely, some areas over the Atlantic region recorded below-average rainfall. These included eastern and northern Honduras, and northeastern Nicaragua. Thirty- day deficits ranged between 100 – 200 mm. Since early August, wetter-than-average conditions were observed along the Pacific Rim of Central America, while drier-than-average conditions were registered over the neck of northern and eastern Guatemala, eastern and central Honduras, and northeastern Nicaragua. As far as vegetation conditions are concerned, the latest crop performance product indicated that favorable conditions are present and are expected to continue throughout much of Central America over the upcoming weeks.

During the outlook period, a return to drier weather patterns is forecast with little to no rainfall along the Pacific Basin of Central America and light to moderate rains over the remaining interior of the region. Meanwhile, surface temperatures are expected to remain at or above-average over the region. No Tropical Cyclone is expected over the Atlantic Basin over the upcoming days.
