Curriculum Vitae

Sandra Zovko was born on 28th of August 1978 in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina (former Yugoslavia). Due to the civil war in Bosnia, she fled with her family in 1993 to The Netherlands. She graduated from Gymnasium (VWO) in 1998 at Wolfert van Borselen in Rotterdam. That same year Sandra started her Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences study at Leiden University. In 2002/2003 she did the internship at the department of Toxicology under supervision of Drs. Raoef Imamdi and Prof. Dr. Bob van de Water.

During this internship she performed research on the molecular mechanisms of cisplatin- induced cyto-toxicity in the context of acute renal failure. She got her Masters Degree in 2003, where after she started as PhD student at the group of Prof. Dr. Bram Koster (at that time group of Dr. Henk Koerten, LUMC) under supervision of Dr. Mieke Mommaas.

The results of the performed research are presented in this thesis. In April 2008, after finishing her PhD study, she joined as postdoc the group of Prof. Dr. Bob van de Water (Division of Toxicology, LACDR). She is currently working on a large EU project entitled

‘MetaFight- Understanding and fighting metastasis via dissection of the Core Invasive Machinery”.
