Climate Prediction Center’s Central Asia Hazards Outlook July 21 – July 27, 2016

Temperatures:

During the middle of July, near normal temperatures (25-35 degrees Celsius) prevailed throughout the region, with the greatest positive temperature departures (2-4 degrees Celsius) observed across portions of Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan. For the end of July, temperatures are forecast to continue to increase, with maximum daytime temperatures expected to exceed 35 degrees across portions of southern Kazakhstan, and over 40 degrees over parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Precipitation

Increased rainfall accumulations were received across northern Kazakhstan during the last seven days. Further south, a weaker distribution of precipitation was observed over Pakistan, as the highest rainfall amounts associated with the summer monsoon were confined to the south in northwestern India. Since late June, both the quantity and distribution of seasonal rainfall has gradually improved throughout many regions of Central Asia, with the largest moisture surpluses observed over northern and eastern Kazakhstan, as well as, throughout northern Pakistan. Precipitation models suggest the potential for enhanced rainfall towards the end of July over portions of northern Kazakhstan and over northern Pakistan.
