Lucas Maciel Rabello was born on 21 February 1986 in Petrópolis, Brazil. When he was 12 years old he moved with his parents and brother to the South of Brazil (Londrina-Paraná). In 2005 he started his bachelor in Physical Therapy at the State University of Londrina. During his bachelor’s programme he received a scholarship from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development. After graduating in 2008 he started working as a physiotherapist in a private clinic (specialised in orthopaedic and sports rehabilitation) and as physiotherapist of a Taekwondo
team (Madureira Taekwondo team). Continuing his studies, he started a specialisation in manual therapy at the State University of Londrina. In 2010 he completed his specialisation and was invited to work as principal physiotherapist of the Brazilian National team of Taekwondo. In 2011 he started his master’s degree at the University of the North Paraná/ State University of Londrina, under the supervision of Prof. Rubens Alexandre da Silva Junior. As part of his education, Lucas went to Montreal for an internship at the University of Montreal. In six months he developed his master’s project under the supervision of Prof. Danny Gagnon. In 2013, after completing his master’s degree, Lucas continued working as a physiotherapist in Londrina, Paraná. One year later he moved to Ariquemes-Rondônia to coordinate a physical therapy bachelor’s programme and to teach physical therapy at the Faculty of Education and Environment – FAEMA. In 2015, after receiving a scholarship from the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), he moved to the Netherlands to start his PhD at the University of Groningen/University Medical Center Groningen.
