1. While English continues to enjoy its central position as the international language of internet, linguistic diversity and multilingualism on the internet are on the rise.

2. Internet has major implications for the maintenance and development of diasporic networks where an individual’s identity is claimed and re-constructed in interaction and in relation to the other internet users in the dynamic context of the migration-affected host society.

3. Codeswitching on Facebook includes creative and playful uses of linguistic resources, which are reflexively mobilized in discourses of cultural diversity.

4. While social media platforms can create a means of communication between migrants and their dispersed communities, it has major impact on host society with people getting involved in transnational networks that offer potentially altered form of identity and community formation.

5. In a world of global flows of wealth, power, and images, the search for identity, collective or individual, ascribed or constructed, becomes the fundamental source of social meaning. (Manuel Castells, 1996)
