Vroeg in M ei 1986 het hy na Europa vertrek en m useum s in W enen, Bonn, Tervuren (Belgie), Parys en London besoek. In hierdie m useum s het hy h oo fsa a klike kse m p la re van verskeie sw aelspesies u it A frik a ondersoek aangesien daar m in bekend is oor sekere aspekte van h ulle leefwyses. Hy het ook m useum s in New York err W a s h in g to n besoek en saam met 'n A m e rik a a n s e v o e lk u n d ig e , p a r a s ito lo g ie s e studies op die A m erikaanse F am iliesw ael naby O klahom a C ity uitgevoer. Tydens sy besoek aan die U n ive rsite it van O klahom a het hy ook 'n sem inaar getiteld "M u d nests and the adaptive sig n ific a n c e of co lo n ia l breeding by the S ou th A fric a n C liff S w a llo w " gelewer. T ibor Farkas w as born and g rew up in H ungary w here he also trained as an o rn ith o lo g is t before e m ig ra tin g to S outh A fric a in 1 957. A fte r service w ith the T ransvaal N ature C onservation D ivision at Barberspan and the Percy F itzpatrick In s titu te fo r A fric a n O rn ith o lo g y in Cape T o w n he jo in ed th e s t a f f of t he N a t i o n a l M u s e u m in B loem fontein d u rin g 1973.
A fte r 1 3 years service at the M useum and having atta in ed re tire m e nt age, Tibor has decided to "e m ig ra te " to a w a rm e r clim ate. He w ill not o nly be rem em bered as an O rn ith o lo g is t w h o som etim es used to have his subjects fly in g contentedly and freely about in his office, but also fo r his good sense of h um ou r, lover of te rrie r dogs (som etim es 1 and som etim es 3), fanciei5 of cars (som etim es 1 and som etim es 2) but also fo r his g e n tle m a n ly behaviour.
