Trommelvliesbuisjes en zwemmen

In een meta-analyse van 11 onderzoeken vond men geen verschil in het optreden van middenoorontsteking bij kinderen met trommelvliesbuisjes die zwemmen, al of niet met

oorbescherming, en bij kinderen die niet zwemmen (OR 0,8; 95%-BI 0,4 tot 1,5 voor beide). 71 Bij analyse van 6 onderzoeken blijkt dat de mate van otorroe wijzend op een mogelijke infectie bij kinderen met trommelvliesbuisjes die zwemmen, niet groter is dan bij kinderen met buisjes die niet zwemmen. 72

Geconcludeerd wordt dat kinderen met trommelvliesbuisjes het zwemmen niet ontraden hoeft te worden. Duiken met trommelvliesbuisjes lijkt op theoretische gronden niet verstandig. Zwemmen ten tijde van een loopoor wordt afgeraden. Zie ook NHG-Standaard Otitis media acuta bij
