6. Conclusion

6.3 Further research

Since the main limitations are provided in the previous section, now it is possible to draw further research ideas. For example, one of them is using different databases to run a meta-analysis of the effect of the purpose on the collaboration. It can give a more holistic approach to the purpose since different scores with different selection criteria would be taken into account. While this paper considers purpose as a whole, not dividing it into different dimensions, further research can get results based on different pillars that the purpose consists of and check which one has a higher effect on the collaboration with a fintech. It can provide information on which particular partner selection criteria or which combination the collaboration is based on instead of assessing it overall. Moreover, the findings of this thesis propose the idea that purpose-driven banks are more likely to have a vision toward digital transformation since they collaborate with fintechs, which are a source of technological innovations in the banking industry. However, further research is needed to establish the analysis to test that relationship statistically. Another idea for the research is to distinguish between types of interactions between fintechs and banks and see how the results might change depending on the type.

Finally, this paper does not look at post-deal performance, which can be an interesting topic to address. Assessing how purpose might influence the financial performance, like a stock return or revenue or income, of the banks after the collaboration or a partnership can provide deeper insights on the effect of purpose overall.
